This system addresses a number of issues that might be seen in a hostel mess. The verification of kids accessing the mess is the first issue. It has been observed that many students who are not eligible for this facility use someone else's card for access since a security guard checks the cards handed to students. Students also have trouble in keeping track of their cards.
Entry authentication is handled by facial recognition software. This system is placed at the mess gate, where a pi camera is set up to identify students and enable them admission by disabling the solenoid lock, which would otherwise keep the door locked.
The second mechanism, which is situated at the plate counter, is used to verify that the student who took a plate truly ate the food in the mess. Therefore, in order to pick up their plate, they must have their finger scanned on the plate counter.
The information about a student eating their food is updated according to the fingers scanned at the plate counter and communicated with the parents of the student via a website. Making this a parent-friendly approach.
